2025 AiR Curatorial Statement: Continuing the format introduced in 2024, this year’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) programme was shaped by invitation. However, this edition introduced a new dimension: two artists from different cultural and geographical backgrounds were invited to join simultaneously, to foster collaboration and cultural exchange. The selection criteria emphasized representation, ensuring one artist comes from Thailand and the other from Hong Kong. This summer, we were delighted to welcome Puvamin Indee and Hou Lam Tsui to Koh Samui. Neither artist had visited the island before — in fact, it was Hou Lam Tsui’s first time in Thailand — which made their discoveries and interactions with the island’s communities particularly fresh and interesting in contrast…
2025 艺术家驻留计划策展人语： 延续2024年的形式，今年的驻留艺术家计划继续采用邀请制。然而，本届计划引入了一个新维度：邀请两位来自不同文化和地理背景的艺术家共同参与，为促进合作与文化交流。以多样性与代表性为出法点，决定一位艺术家来自泰国，另一位来自香港。今年夏天，我们很高兴欢迎 Puvamin Indee 和 徐皓霖 加入苏梅岛的驻地项目。这两位艺术家皆初次到苏梅岛，徐皓霖甚至初次到泰国，这使他们与岛上社区的互动与发现显得尤为新鲜且富有意义的对比。。。。

Puvamin Indee Project Statement Puvamin Indee 艺术家驻留计划感言: Most of the time, voices from others have usually been used to define who we are, especially throughout Thai history. The stories from local people are not
recorded or remembered. Therefore, they are lost, even though they hold a great meaning to the area.
One of the best tools to capture memories is a camera. In the past, many homes would preserve these memories through photographs and even photo albums.
The process of creating this work is therefore a revival of memories of Koh Samui through the voices and eyes of locals. How do each of them remember the
stories here? What original memories have been lost from the island due to transformation, from a coconut city to a tourist destination?
Giving local people ownership of their stories and letting them speak of the changes on Koh Samui through their photographs is a process of reviving memories
and giving new meaning to the original photographs.

The works presented in this exhibition crystallise Hou Lam Tsui’s one-month
observation and research in Koh Samui, Thailand. As a tourist, outsider, and flâneur
wandering the island, Tsui continued her ongoing exploration of the body, gender, and
femininity.
